Join the Barker-Ewing Team

Barker-Ewing is hiring a Snake River Guide for the 2026 scenic float season. Locally owned and operated since 1963, Barker-Ewing Float Trips is the original 10-mile scenic float outfitter in Grand Teton National Park.

As a Snake River Guide, you will lead 10-mile scenic float trips through the heart of Grand Teton National Park, combining safe and confident river navigation with memorable guest service. Successful guides create an outstanding on-river experience by sharing the area's wildlife, geology, history, and outdoor ethics with professionalism and enthusiasm.

Core Duties

  • Navigate with confidence: Safely operate a 12-passenger DIB raft on a technical, ever-changing stretch of the Snake River.
  • Create memorable guest experiences: Deliver engaging interpretation on local geology, history, wildlife, Bear Aware practices, Leave No Trace principles, and other outdoor ethics.
  • Lead with safety first: Provide thorough safety briefings, assess river conditions and hazards, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Support daily operations: Load gear, clean boats, and maintain safety equipment and trip readiness each day.

Requirements

  • Age and driving qualifications: You must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for guest transport.
  • Required certifications: Wilderness First Aid and CPR are required. Swiftwater Rescue certification is strongly preferred.
  • Physical capability: You must be able to row for extended periods and consistently lift 50+ pounds.
  • Professional presence: Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to stay calm under outdoor and customer-facing pressure are essential.
  • Screening requirement: Candidates must be able to pass a 10-year background check.

Work Conditions

  • Season: Mid-May through early October, with preference for candidates who can commit to the full season.
  • Schedule: Full-time, 5 days per week, including weekends and some evening shifts.
  • Trip volume: Guides typically average 2 to 3 trips per day, with each trip lasting approximately 2.5 to 3 hours round trip.
  • Work environment: Based in Moose, Grand Teton National Park, with daily work outdoors in changing mountain weather conditions.

Compensation and Training

This full-time seasonal position offers competitive per-trip pay, hourly shop pay for work completed off the river, and eligibility for an end-of-season bonuses. Previous rowing experience is helpful but not required; Barker-Ewing is willing to train the right candidate.

All selected applicants must successfully complete guide training. Because the Deadman's Bar to Moose stretch of the Snake River is highly technical and Barker-Ewing uses large 19-foot DIB Snake River rafts, new guides should expect extensive hands-on instruction and a strong emphasis on safety, boat handling, and guest care.

The ideal candidate is outgoing, dependable, hardworking, safety-minded, and excited to represent Barker-Ewing while working closely with guests and teammates in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
